Keepers Cottage

"Luxurious hideaway with stunning enclosed garden close to Totnes."

The market town of Totnes with its excellent shops, restaurants and cafes is less than 10 minutes drive with Dartington Hall and Schumacher college just a couple of minutes further on. Dartmouth and Dittisham, a great spot for sailing, crabbing, boat trips or visiting Agatha Christie's house Greenways, are a few minutes drive. Many of South Devon's best beaches, such as the award winning Blackpool sands and Beesands are also within a short drive. The open moorland of Dartmoor is also close by.

The cottage has been completely refurbished to a very high standard and is tastefully furnished throughout. There is a comfortable sitting room with a three seater and a two seater sofa, a wood burning stove, Sharp flat-screen TV, DVD player with a selection of DVDs and wi-fi.

The sitting room leads through to the fully fitted kitchen. The high spec kitchen has granite worktops, Bosch appliances (dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer and an induction hob). There's also a great Mocca Master coffee machine, a Dualit toaster and a microwave. The kitchen is provided with plenty of good quality white china, glasses and saucepans.

You dine in the very bright conservatory just off the kitchen or if it's warm in the enclosed, private but very sunny garden.

Upstairs there are two double bedrooms. The larger, ensuite bedroom has ziplink beds which separate into two singles. The high-spec bathroom has a walk in shower. The second family bathroom also has a shower and great attention to detail including lights which come on automatically when you walk into it.

Outside

The charming garden makes this cottage special. You can sit round the large round dining for breakfast or a little further back there is a table for two overlooking the babbling brook.

There is private parking for two cars right next to the cottage. From the cottage it is a two minute walk to picturesque Harbertonford Bridge and the village pub and shop.

The excellent village shop and post office sells a vast range of food and drink including locally grown produce. The local pub, the Maltsters Arms two minutes walk from the house is OK but three of Devon's finest Dart riverside pubs: the Ferry Boat Inn at Dittisham, the Waterman's at Cornworthy and and the Maltsters Arms at Tuckhenhay are just a few minutes drive. The Church House Inn in Harberton, a couple of miles away is also excellent.

Things to do nearby

Beaches - you’re spoilt for choice. For families with young children it’s hard to beat Blackpool Sands (strictly no dogs at any time. Or for a shingle beach with a great fish cafe and gastropub try Beesands (dogs allowed all year round). However our favourite beaches are the hidden sandy coves a little further round the coast. These wilder beaches also mean you can take dogs all year round.
If you want to try your hand at surfing the beach at Bigbury, about 30 minutes drive, is considered the best place in South Devon. You can hire surfboards and wetsuits here. It’s also popular with kitesurfers. But Bigbury also has a large family friendly sandy beaches, a couple of great cafes and a chance to explore Burgh Island and ride the sea tractor which links the island to the mainland when the tide is high. Bantham Beach, just round the corner from Bigbury is also popular. Dogs are restricted on these beaches from May to September.
Cinema - there is an excellent arts cinema at the Barn at Dartington Hall (about 4 miles from the cottage).
Boat tips - there are boat trips to suit all tastes available from Totnes, Dartmouth and Paignton: mackerel fishing, deep sea fishing, sailing or cruises.
Walks, Pubs and other Sports -There are some great walks along and round the river Dart. These can be combined with a visit to one of the excellent riverside pubs: The Watermans Arms in Cornworthy, Hunters Lodge, also in Cornworthy, the Maltsters Arms in Tuckenhay and the Ferry Boat Inn. Or for a flatter but still stunning walk you can walk the section of the Dart between Totnes and Staverton.
For longer, wilder walks head for the South Devon Coast Path or Dartmoor. There are various golf courses. The whole area is also great for cycling and canoeing.
